Water damage can happen in a home or office for many reasons, including a leaky roof or burst pipes, flooding, or even trying to put out fires. Regardless of the source, water damage to your home or business must be dealt with quickly.
Professional companies are trained to restore property to its original condition. The company will inspect the property, assess the damage, and then provide a price for your loss and a service to restore it. The water restoration company will assess the extent of your water damage and give you a rating from one to four. One room or one area of carpet that is not saturated is considered level one damage. Two-level damage is usually a room that has saturated carpet and wicking up the wall 12-24 inches. Level three water damage is usually caused by overhead damage, such as a leaky ceiling or a saturated area. Level four is for severe saturation, such as a flood. The water damage restoration team will need to determine the extent of the damage to your home. For example, water contamination of level one is clean water, such as water from a broken pipe. Level two water contamination can contain contaminants that could cause illness if ingested. This could be a washing machine or dishwasher overflow, or a toilet bowl that has overflowed and may contain urine. Level three is black water, and is the most unsanitary. This could be a result of a toilet overflowing, sewage spillage, or flood waters from rivers or canals. If ingested, black water is considered unsanitary. This category can also include standing water, regardless of its source. After these assessments have been made, your water damage restoration team will begin to remove the water. This could involve pumping out standing water from the home and sucking out the water from the carpet and flooring. Next, remove any dry walls that have wicking. If necessary, replace insulation and structural beams. Depending on the extent of water contamination, flooring may need to be removed and replaced. After drying, deodorizing and sanitizing the equipment, they will leave it in place for a few more days to continue drying the home. They will assess the home again after two to three days. If the equipment reaches pre-water damage dryness, it is removed and your home restored.
